Are you our next Digital Marketing Intern?

First we need to warn you, though — this is not your typical internship. Because The 5th Sense is solely owned and operated by me, Alex, the CEO— you will spend the summer working directly with me. Instead of fetching coffee and filing papers, you’ll get a front-row look at what it’s like to operate a marketing business from the bottom up — including client relations, sales, content writing, marketing campaigns and more.

In addition to working within my business, we will also dedicate a few hours each week to developing your career path — reviewing your resume, working on cover letters and customizing a plan based on your unique interests and career goals. I’m also open to developing a small project within the company that will help you hone and showcase your specific area of interest. This role is unpaid, but it has the opportunity to transition into a paid contractor position if you are a good fit.

A successful digital marketing intern will:

  • Contribute to meetings and content brainstorms across our portfolio of clients

  • Create and schedule compelling content for clients across several digital media platforms — Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, email blasts, blog posts and more

  • Research and write in-house content for The 5th Sense blog and our signature email marketing course, 5 Minute Food Marketing

  • Design accompanying graphics in Canva

  • Assist in identifying new business opportunities and monthly reporting

  • Attend events as needed to gather content

An ideal candidate is…

  • Based in Denver, Colorado. You must be located in or able to travel to Denver at least two days per week

  • Able to work 20 hours per week. This will be a combination of remote work and in-person meetings (usually in Capitol Hill and the Highlands). More hours are available, but we are equally committed to considering candidates who need to maintain another part-time job for income

  • Available all summer, ideally May - September. However, we are willing to be flexible with vacations, etc.

  • Interested in lifestyle marketing — especially in the food & beverage space

  • A strong writer, proofreader and editor

  • Self-motivated and able to complete multiple projects at once, on time without constant supervision

  • Outgoing enough to speak up in meetings, attend events and converse with clients confidentiality

  • Creative and tech-savvy enough to thrive in a fast-paced digital media-driven environment

Note — the following are not required, but definitely a plus:

  • Photography and/or graphic design skills

  • Knowledge of social media scheduling, analytics and advertising

  • Past experience with lifestyle marketing, particularly food and beverage

  • Entrepreneurial spirit

To apply, please send a resume and cover letter to alex@the5thsense.com with SUMMER INTERNSHIP as the subject line. In your cover letter, be sure to explain why you’re interested in working for The 5th Sense, what your career goals are and what you hope to learn this summer.

About Alex Palmerton

I’m no stranger to internships. From high school through the end of college, I’ve had every type of internship you can imagine — writing for a hometown newspaper, writing for a boutique travel magazine, working in the ratings department at HGTV, planning fundraising events at Goodwill, doing marketing work for a restaurant group and more. All were unpaid, and some were certainly more beneficial than others.

I’ve learned a lot about how to run a proper internship program from my past experience, and I’m committed to providing one that is mutually beneficial. I obviously need someone that is committed to helping The 5th Sense grow this summer, but I’m equally dedicated to teaching and mentoring you. I want to pull back the curtain on what it’s like to own a business, and I hope to help you grow as a communicator so you can succeed in your career beyond this internship.
